Memory Foam ?

Memory Foam ?

The idea of memory foam is incredibly simple. Instead of sleeping on springs, you sleep on very thick foam that gives way where you press on it. Technically, it's called visco-elastic: visco (from viscous) means it moves when you apply a force; elastic means it returns to its original shape when you remove the force. The foam is temperature sensitive, so it tends to sink more as your body temperature warms it up. Very quickly, it forms to your unique contours. If you sleep on your side, the foam sinks in much more at your shoulders and hips so, in theory, your entire body is always perfectly supported and your spine remains straight. Your weight is spread more evenly and the pressure is relieved on places like your shoulders and hips. That's why many people find memory foam mattresses help to reduce the symptoms of problems such as back pain and arthritis. If you change position or turn over, the mattress immediately takes to your new shape. High-density foam mattresses are also claimed to be more hygienic because bed bugs apparently don't like living in the foam. In reality, bugs can lurk in your bedding, on your carpet, on your walls, and in plenty of other places in your bedroom—so this claim is a bit of an exaggeration. It may be true that memory foam beds reduce the problem of bed bugs, but scrupulous hygiene is really the only solution to that particular problem, not just a change in your mattress.

How Not To Be HOT In Bed

How Not To Be HOT In Bed

Getting too hot in bed is one of those things that can drive you crazy, you lye there watching every hour come and go, unable to rest, all the while knowing that tiredness will follow you all the next day like a lost puppy, without the cuteness. Staying cool in bed is a hit and miss thing, not everything works for everyone and there is conflicting information about how to do it. The best advice we can give is as follows.

Take a cool bath or shower or wipe your body down with a cool wash cloth. Without fully drying yourself, hop into bed, and let the air slowly dry you. This will keep you cool for a long time, allowing you to fall asleep. If a shower or bath is not an option, splash cool water on your head, and soak your hands and feet in cool water if possible. Your head, hands and feet are your "radiators" and you'll feel cooler faster by focusing on those areas. Note that this method is temporary, and more psychologically sound than physiologically accurate, as a cold shower will close your body's pores, which in the long run will heat your body. Lots of people develop rashes due to heat. Apply talcum powder all over the body after shower to keep body cool and to avoid rashes.

Use a smaller, firmer pillow, it allows more air to circulate around your head, which is the hottest part of your body. For some people, taking your mind off the problem (for example watching television or reading a book) can sometimes help you ignore the heat.

An obvious one is to avoid spicy foods for at least an hour before going to bed and some say even to avoid hot foods such as soup, hot cocoa. Do not consume any caffeinated beverages before trying to sleep, your increased heart rate will make you hotter and more susceptible to the heat.

Mattress Toppers

Mattress ToppersMemory foam mattress toppers are always very popular, they can change the feel of a bed almost instantly. Maybe a bed is slightly too firm and you can’t get a decent nights sleep or you need something to give you an extra layer of comfort, the mattress topper can be a god send. It does have to be said, a mattress topper won’t suddenly make a twenty year old bed feel brand new, if the mattress you are putting it on is worn and dipped then the mattress topper will follow the same pattern. They are designed to enhance a mattress, to give a different feel to a mattress or compliment the existing feel of a bed. Available with or without removable covers they really can make a difference to your bed.
